Communities in China hold live performances where everyone is invite to participate.
The first row of seats is always empty, because this is where the ghost sits. Performances are always done at night with the volume settings in high, because people believe that sound will attract and please ghosts. Some performances that are common to see are Chinese operas, dramas, and even comedy show in some areas. Traditionally, Chinese opera is the main source of entertainment, but newer performances called "Getai" have been getting more popularity due to the fact that these shows are more targeted towards the living.


Getai are live stage shows that are characterized by their vivid and energetic performances. These performances are meant to be for the spirits but also for living to enjoy. With the decline of Chinese opera and traditional puppet shows as popular entertainment, these public shows evolved to become what is known today as Getai.
Traditional Chinese Operas are a form of theater in China that combines music, literature, drama and visual arts. Through these performances, young people in Chinese community can best understand their culture and strengthen their cultural identity.
There are five main types of Chinese Han opera, Beijing Opera being one of the most influential one, and the esence of Chinese culture.
